According to the minister, sections of the surrounding water body were temporarily filled with soil during bridge construction to facilitate engineering works. Authorities stressed that the activity does not pose a risk to the bridge's foundations or operational integrity.
The issue gained attention after local residents raised concerns that soil was being removed illegally and sold commercially, leading the Narayanganj district administration to temporarily halt the work while verifying project documentation. Project officials and Bangladesh Railway subsequently confirmed that the excavation forms part of contractual site restoration requirements and is being supervised under established engineering procedures.
