United Arab Emirates, June 2026 — Etihad Rail is set to commence passenger operations in phases, beginning with services between Abu Dhabi and Fujairah. The inaugural route will offer a journey time of approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes, with subsequent phases introducing stations in Dubai, Al Dhaid, Al Dhafra, and Sharjah as the national network expands.
The passenger railway will ultimately connect 11 stations across the UAE, linking major population centres, industrial zones, ports, and tourism destinations. Trains will operate at speeds of up to 200 km/h and are designed to provide a faster, more sustainable alternative to road travel while integrating with existing public transport systems. Ticket bookings have opened through Etihad Rail's official platform, with introductory fares starting from AED55 for Comfort Class and AED120 for Premium Class.
For the rail sector, the launch marks a significant milestone in the UAE's transport infrastructure development. Beyond improving passenger mobility, the network is expected to strengthen multimodal connectivity, support tourism, reduce highway congestion, and complement the country's established freight rail operations. The phased rollout also provides the foundation for future regional railway integration across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
The passenger network forms part of Etihad Rail's broader 900 km national railway programme, which has already transformed freight logistics across the Emirates. By extending operations to passenger services, the project demonstrates how integrated rail infrastructure can support sustainable urban growth, economic diversification, and long-term transport resilience while encouraging greater use of public transport.
As additional stations and routes become operational through 2026 and 2027, Etihad Rail is expected to reshape intercity travel across the UAE.
