Singapore, August 2026 – Hitachi Rail has been awarded the signalling contract for the NS3A infill station and NS6 station on Singapore’s North-South Line (NSL). NS6 is planned as a future interchange with the Downtown Line 2 extension, while both stations will be integrated into the existing operational railway using Hitachi Rail’s SELTRAC™ Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) technology.
The project will cover system integration, testing and commissioning, with the work being delivered by Hitachi Rail’s Singapore-based team. NS3A will be added as an infill station on the existing alignment, while NS6 is intended to support future network expansion and provide greater operational flexibility through its planned interchange function.
For the rail sector, integrating new stations into an operating metro line presents particular challenges because signalling modifications must be implemented without compromising passenger services or system reliability. The project therefore places emphasis on coordinating new signalling infrastructure with the existing NSL system, while limiting disruption during installation, testing and commissioning.
SELTRAC CBTC is already deployed across several major metro networks, including Singapore, New York, London and Hong Kong. Hitachi Rail’s latest contract also builds on its continuing relationship with Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA), covering signalling integration and broader rail modernisation activities.
The project highlights the growing importance of advanced signalling and system-integration capabilities as established metro networks add stations and interchange connections. For Singapore, extending CBTC infrastructure while keeping the existing North-South Line operational demonstrates the technical requirements involved in expanding capacity within a mature urban rail system.
