Morocco, June 2026 — Hyundai Rotem has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Morocco's national railway operator, ONCF, to cooperate on the long-term maintenance and servicing of rolling stock. The agreement builds on Hyundai Rotem's growing involvement in Morocco's railway market and supports the country's ongoing investment in modern rail infrastructure.
The partnership covers technical maintenance, fleet servicing, and knowledge sharing to improve the performance and reliability of railway operations. It also includes cooperation on technology transfer, workforce training, and the development of local maintenance capabilities, helping Morocco strengthen its domestic railway expertise while supporting long-term fleet availability.
For the rail sector, the agreement reflects the increasing importance of lifecycle support services alongside rolling stock procurement. As operators invest in new trains, comprehensive maintenance programmes are becoming essential to maximise asset performance, reduce operational disruptions, and extend vehicle service life while lowering total lifecycle costs.
The collaboration also aligns with Morocco's broader railway expansion strategy, which includes extending high-speed rail services, modernising conventional rail infrastructure, and improving national connectivity ahead of major international events and future transport demand. Partnerships with global rolling stock manufacturers are expected to play an important role in supporting these long-term infrastructure ambitions.
The agreement highlights a wider industry trend towards integrated rail solutions that combine rolling stock supply with long-term maintenance, digital monitoring, and technical support. As railway networks become more technologically advanced, maintenance partnerships are increasingly recognised as critical to delivering safe, reliable, and efficient passenger services.
