The UK rail supply sector continues to consolidate around proven digital signalling platforms as infrastructure owners push for faster renewals. Knorr-Bremse Rail Systems UK and AtkinsRéalis have signed a five-year framework agreement covering the deployment of ElectroLogIXS digital interlockings across upcoming resignalling projects.

United Kingdom, June 2026 — Knorr-Bremse Rail Systems UK and engineering consultancy AtkinsRéalis have formalised a new chapter in their collaboration on Britain's resignalling programme. The five-year framework agreement, announced on 16 June, commits both parties to continued joint work on digital interlocking deployments at a time when Network Rail is accelerating the modernisation of legacy signalling assets across its network.

At the centre of the arrangement is ElectroLogIXS, Knorr-Bremse's SIL4-certified, Network Rail-approved platform combining interlocking, object controller and level crossing functionality within a modular architecture. Under the deal, AtkinsRéalis will lead the design, integration, deployment and commissioning of turnkey signalling schemes using ElectroLogIXS units drawn from Knorr-Bremse's KB Signaling division, which was established following the group's $690 million acquisition of Alstom's conventional rail signalling portfolio in North America in 2024.

For AtkinsRéalis's UK rail systems business, the framework extends its Advanced Signalling Method portfolio at a moment when the supply chain is under pressure to minimise operational disruption during renewals. Sector Director Lead Rail Systems Lee Ludlum said the agreement supports the firm's ability to deploy its Advanced Signalling Method "at pace — minimising disruption for passengers and operators, while delivering predictable outcomes for clients." Knorr-Bremse Head of Sales Richard Ward described the deal as "an important step" that "reflects the confidence both organisations have in the capabilities of ElectroLogIXS."

ElectroLogIXS is already in live service in Britain. The platform is currently being rolled out on the Havant resignalling scheme, which AtkinsRéalis is delivering under Network Rail's Train Control Systems Framework — providing the parties with reference deployment experience ahead of further rollout under the new agreement.

The framework points to continued momentum in the UK shift toward standardised, software-defined interlocking solutions. As renewals accelerate under Network Rail's wider control systems strategy, partnerships that pair certified digital hardware with proven systems integration capability are well positioned to capture the next wave of resignalling workload.
