Malaysia Deploys Specialized Military Unit to Enhance Urban Rail Security

KUALA LUMPUR, February 2026 — Malaysia's commitment to safeguarding its rapidly expanding urban rail infrastructure, including the LRT, MRT, and Monorail systems, is being reinforced through a new strategic initiative. The newly formed Skuadron Rapid Rail RAJD Askar Wataniah comprises 33 officers and 191 members from the Askar Wataniah, bringing professional expertise in rail operations, engineering, and transport management. This specialized unit is tasked with protecting the rail network from threats such as cable theft and providing essential technical and operational support during emergencies or crisis situations.
