MHI Supports Taiwan High-Speed Rail Maintenance Capacity Expansion

Japan, July 2026 — Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) has received an order from Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation (THSRC) to supply maintenance tools and equipment for the Yanchao Main Workshop in southern Taiwan. The contract strengthens maintenance infrastructure supporting Taiwan’s high-speed rail operations and reflects continued cooperation between Japanese railway technology suppliers and the Taiwanese rail sector.

The Yanchao Main Workshop serves as a key facility for inspection and maintenance activities for THSRC’s train fleet. Under the agreement, MHI will provide specialised maintenance equipment to support workshop operations, including preparations related to the introduction of new N700ST series trainsets on the Taiwan High Speed Rail network.

The investment highlights the growing importance of advanced maintenance capabilities as high-speed rail operators manage increasingly complex fleets. Beyond rolling stock procurement, workshop upgrades, specialised tools, and technical support systems are critical components in maintaining reliability, operational efficiency, and passenger safety throughout the lifecycle of railway assets.

MHI has a long-standing relationship with Taiwan’s high-speed rail system, contributing railway technologies and engineering expertise since the network’s development. The latest order demonstrates the continued role of original equipment manufacturers in supporting operators beyond initial deployment through lifecycle services, maintenance solutions, and operational improvements.
