GUADALAJARA, January 2026 — Cities worldwide are modernizing their urban transit networks to meet growing passenger demand and improve efficiency. Guadalajara's recent acquisition of new light rail vehicles signifies a commitment to enhancing its public transportation infrastructure and service quality for its residents.
A fleet of 12 two-car TEG-23 trainsets has been operating on Line 4 since mid-December 2025. Each 29.5-meter EMU accommodates 300 passengers, including dedicated spaces for wheelchair users, and features an acceleration of 1.2 m/s² with a maximum operating speed of 80 km/h.
These new trains are designed to provide service with nine-minute headways along the 21.7 km Line 4, which comprises nine stations. The vehicles can also operate in multiples of two, allowing for flexible capacity management and integration with the city's existing rolling stock.
The contract for these trainsets was awarded in 2022 to a consortium between CRRC and Portuguese Mota-Engil. Final assembly, including the installation of bogies and electrical equipment, took place in Guadalajara after the SKD sets were prepared at CRRC’s Zhuzhou plant.
This deployment reflects a broader trend of urban rail modernization, where international manufacturers play a key role in supplying advanced rolling stock to meet evolving transit needs and improve the overall passenger experience in metropolitan areas.
