ANKARA — Türkiye has completed production of its first domestically developed electric high-speed train, marking a significant step forward in the country’s ambitions to strengthen its railway technology capabilities.

Announcing the milestone, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, said the train will begin a comprehensive series of test runs starting Friday.

The trials will assess the train’s performance across several key parameters, including maximum speed capability, braking efficiency, driving dynamics and compatibility with existing rail infrastructure before it enters wider service.

The National Electric High-Speed Train project forms part of Türkiye’s broader strategy to increase the share of domestically manufactured rolling stock in its rail fleet while reducing dependence on imported technology.

According to Uraloğlu, the introduction of the locally produced train will play a crucial role in strengthening the country’s high-speed rail network and supporting the development of a self-reliant railway industry.

Expansion of Domestic High-Speed Fleet

Authorities also revealed plans to manufacture an additional 14 train sets between 2026 and 2028. Once completed, the new units are expected to significantly expand the number of domestically produced trains operating on Türkiye’s high-speed rail network.

Currently, 31 high-speed train sets are in operation across the country’s rail system.

The initiative underscores Türkiye’s broader push to advance its industrial capacity in high-tech transportation systems while reinforcing the role of rail as a key component of the nation’s long-term mobility strategy.
