Tianjin-Weifang High-Speed Railway Enters Track-Laying Phase

China, September 2026 – Construction of the Tianjin-Weifang High-Speed Railway entered the track-laying phase on September 1, with continuous welded rail installation beginning at Dongying South Railway Station and Binzhou Railway Station in Shandong Province. The work represents a transition from major structural construction toward the railway’s track infrastructure and subsequent systems installation.

The approximately 349-kilometre railway will connect Binhai Station in Tianjin Municipality with Weifang North Station in Shandong Province. Designed for operating speeds of up to 350 km/h, the line will form part of China’s wider high-speed railway network, which is structured around eight north-south and eight east-west trunk corridors.

The track-laying operation is being undertaken by China Railway 21st Bureau Group Corporation Limited. Starting work from two locations allows construction teams to progress along different sections of the route, supporting the continued development of the railway toward eventual system integration and testing.

The project will strengthen rail connectivity along China’s northern coastal region, linking Tianjin with cities and economic areas in eastern Shandong. Its integration into the broader high-speed network is expected to improve intercity passenger mobility while supporting more efficient connections between major urban and economic centres.

The entry into track-laying highlights the continued scale and pace of China’s high-speed rail programme. As the Tianjin-Weifang line advances toward completion, the project will add another high-capacity corridor to the national network and further strengthen connections across the Bohai Rim and Shandong regions.
