KUALA LUMPUR — The final feasibility study for the proposed Trans-Borneo Railway is slated for completion by mid-year, following further stakeholder engagement sessions in Sabah and Sarawak, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said.

The minister revealed that he recently received a preliminary briefing on the interim findings of the study and has instructed consultants to align their assessment with the economic blueprints of both East Malaysian states.

According to Loke, incorporating Sabah and Sarawak’s development priorities is crucial to ensure the railway’s proposed routes function as a genuine catalyst for regional growth.

“If implemented, the Trans-Borneo Railway would be a long-term undertaking that may take decades to fully materialise. However, it is important that we lay a strong foundation now through comprehensive planning,” he said in a statement shared on Facebook.

Loke added that under the Madani framework, the federal government remains committed to promoting balanced and inclusive development across the Malaysian Federation, with infrastructure serving as a key driver of economic integration between Peninsular Malaysia and the Borneo states.

Further details of the feasibility findings are expected once the final report is submitted later this year.
