India, October 2026 – Indian Railways has inaugurated the 53-kilometre Satna–Devendranagar and 65-kilometre Rewa–Churhat railway sections on 24 October 2026. The inauguration was led by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, alongside the launch of a new passenger service connecting Devendranagar and Churhat. The developments extend railway access towards the Panna and Sidhi districts while strengthening connections through the existing railway centres of Satna and Rewa.
The two sections represent a combined investment of approximately ₹1,943 crore. The Rewa–Churhat section was developed at a cost of around ₹1,070 crore, with completion of the final 22.5-kilometre Rampur Naikin–Churhat stretch enabling the connection to reach Churhat. Meanwhile, the Satna–Devendranagar section involved an investment of approximately ₹873 crore, including the completion of the final eight-kilometre Phulwari–Devendranagar stretch. Both developments form part of the wider Lalitpur–Singrauli railway development programme.
The expanded network is expected to improve freight transportation opportunities for the region's cement, clinker, limestone and mineral-based industries. Satna is an established cement manufacturing centre, while surrounding areas contain significant mineral resources. Improved rail access could provide businesses with additional options for moving bulk commodities, connecting industrial production centres with regional and national markets. Agricultural producers and local traders may also benefit from improved access to transportation networks.
Construction of the Rewa–Churhat section involved significant engineering requirements due to the region's challenging terrain. The route includes multiple bridges and a 3.33-kilometre tunnel, supporting railway connectivity across hilly areas. The infrastructure development is also expected to improve passenger access to education, employment and commercial centres in communities previously served by more limited transport connections.
The commissioning of these sections represents further progress in India's broader railway expansion programme, which includes new lines, track doubling and network capacity improvements. While the wider Lalitpur–Singrauli corridor remains under development, the latest openings demonstrate how incremental infrastructure delivery can strengthen regional mobility, support industrial logistics and improve access to economic opportunities across central India.
