Maruti Suzuki Reaches One Million Vehicle Dispatches Through Rail Sidings

India, September 2026 — Maruti Suzuki India has crossed one million cumulative vehicle dispatches through its in-plant railway sidings at Hansalpur in Gujarat and Manesar in Haryana. The milestone was reached within three years and five months of the two facilities beginning operations, reflecting the expansion of rail infrastructure within automotive manufacturing sites.

Around 790,000 vehicles have been dispatched through the Hansalpur siding, while approximately 210,000 have moved through the Manesar facility. Together, the two sidings accounted for 70% of Maruti Suzuki’s total rail-based vehicle dispatches in the current financial year through August 31, with more than 300,000 vehicles transported by rail during that period.

Maruti Suzuki’s share of rail-based outbound vehicle logistics has increased from 5% in FY2014–15 to 26.5% in FY2025–26. The company is targeting a 35% rail share by FY2030–31 and plans to extend its in-plant rail infrastructure to the new Kharkhoda manufacturing facility.

The Manesar facility provides a further example of how rail infrastructure can be integrated directly into manufacturing operations. The siding covers 46 acres and includes four full-length rake tracks, an engine-escape track, electrification and electronic train interlocking. The facility is connected with the 126km Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor and is designed to support large-scale vehicle distribution.

For the rail sector, Maruti Suzuki’s expansion demonstrates the potential for dedicated freight infrastructure to shift high-volume automotive logistics from road to rail. Since FY2014–15, the company has transported more than 3.3 million vehicles by rail, highlighting the growing integration of rail freight into industrial supply chains and the development of specialised last-mile rail connections to manufacturing facilities.
