Rapid KL Extends 24-Hour Rail Services For National Day

August 2026 – Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Rapid KL will operate its rail services around the clock from 30 to 31 August 2026, covering the LRT, MRT and Kuala Lumpur Monorail, as part of measures supporting the Merdeka and National Day celebrations. Train frequencies will be adjusted on selected routes according to passenger demand and station conditions.

Additional trains will be deployed where required, with passenger volumes and platform congestion monitored throughout the extended operating period. The Sunway BRT, selected bus routes and Rapid KL On-Demand services will also operate for 24 hours, providing additional public transport capacity during the celebrations.

For passengers travelling to Putrajaya, Rapid KL will provide 103 free shuttle buses across two routes. The MS01 service will operate between Putrajaya Sentral and Jalan Tun Abdul Razak in Presint 2 from 2pm on 30 August until 2pm on 31 August, while MS02 will connect the Putrajaya International Convention Centre with Jalan Tun Hussein in Presint 3 from 4am to 2pm on 31 August.

The extended operations are intended to encourage greater use of public transport and reduce private-vehicle traffic around Putrajaya during the National Day events. More than 5,000 frontline personnel will be deployed across 30 and 31 August to support operations, manage crowds and maintain orderly passenger movement.

The initiative demonstrates how urban rail operators can use extended operating hours, additional rolling stock and multimodal coordination to manage exceptional passenger demand. For Kuala Lumpur's public transport network, the National Day operation also provides an example of how rail and bus capacity can be coordinated during major events while maintaining service accessibility and operational safety.
