Abu Dhabi Invites Bids for New 19km Light Rail Transit Line
ABU DHABI, November 2025 — Abu Dhabi is moving forward with its vision for a modern and integrated public transportation network with the launch of expressions of interest for the new Light Rail Transit Line 4 (LRT4). This marks a significant step in the Emirate’s urban infrastructure development and reflects the growing regional emphasis on sustainable, high-quality transit systems.
The LRT4 project involves the construction of a 19-kilometre light rail line with 23 stops, connecting key destinations including Zayed International Airport, Al Raha Beach, and Yas Island. The contract scope covers the full spectrum of project delivery design, procurement, construction, testing, commissioning, and certification along with civil works, track installation, a fleet of 25 light rail vehicles (LRVs), railway systems, and depot facilities.
This initiative represents an important milestone in Abu Dhabi’s strategy to expand its multimodal public transport ecosystem. The planned line is expected to enhance mobility, support economic diversification, and contribute to the city’s broader sustainability goals by offering efficient and accessible public transit options.
“The launch of this EOI reflects the ongoing strategic vision of Abu Dhabi’s leadership in advancing a smart, integrated transport ecosystem,” said ADT CEO Saeed Salem AlSuwaidi. “ADT is proud to support the Emirate’s goals for economic diversification and urban sustainability.”
Construction of LRT4 is scheduled to begin in 2026, with operations set to commence in 2030. Future phases will extend the line further into Khalifa City and additional areas within Yas Island, reinforcing Abu Dhabi’s long-term commitment to developing a world-class rail infrastructure network.
