Kazakhstan Unveils Second Dostyk-Moiynty Railway Line, Boosting Freight and Transit Potential

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev inaugurated the second line of the Dostyk-Moiynty railway via video link during the seventh New Silk Way International Transport and Logistics Business Forum. Tokayev described the project as the largest railway line constructed since Kazakhstan’s independence and stressed its strategic importance.

“This is a truly historic moment, the result of diligent teamwork. The new line will increase freight traffic volumes fivefold, reduce delivery times for exports, and enhance Kazakhstan’s transit potential,” he said.

The President highlighted that five international railway corridors now traverse Kazakhstan, linking North to South and West to East, providing access to the world’s largest markets. Over the past decade, $35 billion has been invested in the transport and logistics sector, with plans underway to build 5,000 kilometers of new railways and repair 11,000 kilometers.

Tokayev also noted the significance of the Belt and Road Initiative, launched in Kazakhstan in 2013, stating that the new line underscores the country’s active role in the initiative.

Looking ahead, digitalization and artificial intelligence will play an increasing role in the railway sector, Tokayev added, positioning it as one of the leading industries in Kazakhstan’s economy. SOURCE : The Astana Times
