KTMB Sets New Benchmark in ASEAN with Innovative Digital Mobility Platform

Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) today marked a significant milestone in its digital transformation journey by launching KITS Style, Malaysia’s pioneering digital lifestyle application introduced by a rail operator. The app places KTMB at the forefront of Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) innovation within ASEAN, offering passengers a smarter, more integrated, and cashless public transportation experience.

Building upon the Integrated Ticketing System (KITS) introduced in 2019, KITS Style has evolved into a comprehensive MaaS platform. The app provides users with seamless access to various services, including AI-powered journey planning, bookings for flights, hotels, attractions, and car rentals, as well as payments for insurance, utilities, mobile top-ups, and money transfers. Additionally, it features the Rail Rewards loyalty program and exclusive lifestyle offers.

A standout feature of KITS Style is the introduction of the KITS Style Prepaid Mastercard, making KTMB the first rail operator in ASEAN to offer an open-loop prepaid card specifically designed for transit services. Initially available virtually through the app, a physical version is set for release in September 2025. This interoperable card will soon extend beyond KTMB’s network, allowing passengers to utilize it across various public transportation systems nationwide, accompanied by promotional offers and discounts.

In conjunction with the launch, KTMB signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with Capital A and Mastercard. The collaboration with Capital A aims to integrate rail and air travel within KTMB’s Fly Rail platform, starting with seamless connectivity between KTMB services and Senai Airport, with future plans to expand both domestically and internationally. This partnership also integrates KTMB’s Rail Rewards with Capital A’s AirAsia Rewards, enhancing passenger benefits and cross-platform rewards.

Mastercard’s partnership with KTMB focuses on bolstering payment infrastructure and ensuring secure digital transactions throughout KTMB’s network. Beena Pothen, Country Manager for Malaysia and Brunei at Mastercard, emphasized the consumer-centric nature of this innovation, stating, "This collaboration simplifies and enhances the daily commute experience for Malaysians, consolidating journey planning, payments, and lifestyle benefits in one intuitive platform."

The KITS Style initiative directly supports Malaysia’s MyDigital and Digital Economy Blueprint objectives, promoting digital accessibility, financial inclusion, and modernizing the country’s mobility infrastructure. Transport Minister YB Loke Siew Fook lauded the app's potential, highlighting it as proof that railways can drive the digital revolution. "The launch of this open-loop transit card, a first for Malaysia and ASEAN, underscores the significant achievements made possible through collaboration," he stated.

The launch ceremony, officiated by YB Loke Siew Fook, was attended by key industry leaders including Deputy Transport Minister YB Datuk Haji Hasbi Habibollah, KTMB Group CEO Datuk Mohd Rani Hisham Samsudin, Deputy Group CEO of AirAsia Dato’ Chew Chee Seng, Mastercard’s Executive Vice President Sandeep Malhotra, and Dato’ Chew Chee Seng of ManagePay Systems Berhad.

With the introduction of KITS Style, KTMB is redefining passenger experiences by seamlessly integrating travel, lifestyle, and financial services. This positions KTMB as a trailblazer in Malaysia’s rail industry and a regional leader in digital mobility innovation.
