Melaka Inland Port to Enhance Rail Logistics and Regional Investment
The Melaka Inland Port, currently under development in Taboh Naning, is set to enhance the region's rail logistics capabilities and attract greater investment to Melaka and neighbouring states. The 52.89-hectare project, spearheaded by the Melaka Corporation (MCORP), is being positioned as a key logistics hub aligned with the region's push for improved transport infrastructure and sustainable development.
According to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, the project will streamline cargo movement via rail and serve as a logistics enabler for states such as Johor and Negeri Sembilan. The inland port forms part of the broader MCORP Hi-Tech Park, which spans 2,023 hectares.
A memorandum of agreement was signed between MCORP and DS Rail Mobility Sdn Bhd on June 13, 2025, to launch the project's first phase. Phase 1 is expected to involve a gross development cost of RM230.8 million. Project planning officially commenced in November 2024, and the parties are currently preparing and submitting the necessary documentation, including planning permission and environmental impact assessments, for regulatory approvals.
The initiative adopts an Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) framework, focusing on green technology adoption, low-carbon rail solutions, community empowerment, and transparency in governance. This aligns with Melaka's strategic sustainable development goals and Malaysia's broader commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Ministry of Works has approved a RM30 million road enhancement program to support the project. The upgrade will cover the Simpang Ampat toll roundabout route to the Alor Gajah–Melaka Tengah–Jasin (AMJ) highway. The scope of work includes road widening, slope stabilisation, drainage installation, land acquisition, and utility relocation to accommodate anticipated traffic growth.
During the Melaka State Legislative Assembly sitting, Taboh Naning assemblyman Datuk Zulkiflee Mohd Zin (BN) requested an update on the project's progress. In response, Datuk Seri Ab Rauf confirmed that land acquisition procedures under Sections 4 and 8 of the Land Acquisition Act are expected to be submitted to the Melaka Department of the Director General of Lands and Mines by early August 2025. He added that the project's tender process is expected to be advertised by mid-August 2025, with contractor appointments projected for December 2025.
Once completed, the Melaka Inland Port is anticipated to strengthen regional trade flows, reduce logistics bottlenecks, and create new economic opportunities, making it a cornerstone of Melaka's future development.
