MRT3 Circle Line Secures Final Approval; Land Acquisition Targeted for 2026
KUALA LUMPUR, 25 July 2025 — The Mass Rapid Transit 3 (MRT3) project, also known as the Circle Line, has officially received final approval from the Ministry of Transport, marking a major milestone in the development of Klang Valley’s public transportation network.
Transport Minister YB Anthony Loke Siew Fook confirmed the go-ahead after the conclusion of a public inspection exercise conducted by MRT Corporation. According to MRT Corp, the inspection recorded overwhelming public support, with 93.3% of respondents expressing approval for the project.
Following the approval, land acquisition activities will now proceed, with the process targeted for completion by end-2026, according to MRT Corp Chief Executive Officer Datuk Mohd Zarif Hashim.
“This project is the result of years of collaboration between the government, local authorities, and the public. We thank everyone for their input and support,” Zarif said in a statement. He added that MRT Corp will begin a comprehensive community engagement programme to inform residents and businesses affected by the project about upcoming improvements and changes.
The 51.6-kilometre Circle Line will serve as a loop around Kuala Lumpur, connecting with existing MRT, LRT, KTM Komuter, and Monorail networks through 10 interchange stations. The integration aims to ease congestion and improve travel times across the Klang Valley.

In response to public feedback, MRT Corp has refined the project’s alignment, successfully reducing the number of affected land lots from 1,012 to 690. The adjustments involve changes to viaduct alignments and station placements to minimize disruption and acquisition costs.
The MRT3 project is the final piece of the Klang Valley’s urban rail master plan and is expected to significantly enhance last-mile connectivity and public transport accessibility once completed.
