RIYADH, November 2025 — Saudi Arabia's ambitious Qiddiya high-speed rail project has garnered significant international attention, with over 145 companies submitting bids for its development. This initiative is a key component of the Kingdom's broader strategy to enhance transportation infrastructure and foster economic diversification.
The project aims to construct a high-speed rail line connecting Riyadh's King Salman International Airport with the burgeoning Qiddiya City. Designed for speeds of up to 250 km/h, the line is expected to reduce travel time between the capital and the new development area to a mere 30 minutes, significantly improving connectivity.
The extensive bidding process, which covered infrastructure, rolling stock, and operations, attracted a diverse range of global players. This strong international interest underscores the project's scale and Saudi Arabia's commitment to modernizing its transport network as part of its Vision 2030 goals.
Leading international firms from countries including France, Spain, South Korea, Japan, Italy, and Turkey have expressed keen interest in various aspects of the project. Companies specializing in rolling stock, such as Alstom, Hitachi Rail, and Siemens Mobility, alongside major operators like DB International and MTR Hong Kong, are among the contenders, indicating a robust competition for key roles.
This high-speed rail initiative is poised to become a vital piece of Saudi Arabia's infrastructure, facilitating urban mobility, attracting investment, and supporting the development of Qiddiya City as a major future hub.
