BEIJING, November 2025 — China, Tanzania, and Zambia have initiated a significant joint development project focused on the TAZARA Railway, aiming to foster sustainable regional growth and unlock the economic potential along its route. This initiative underscores a commitment to revitalizing critical infrastructure and enhancing connectivity across East Africa.

The agreement, announced during a ground-breaking ceremony attended by leaders from the three nations, designates the China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC) to spearhead the project. Key upgrades will include replacing sleepers, laying 390 kilometers of new rail, repairing existing bridges, and modernizing power and communication systems.

This ambitious undertaking is projected to create over 20,000 jobs, providing a substantial economic boost to the region. The revitalization of the TAZARA Railway is expected to significantly improve passenger services, enhance production and living facilities, and establish a dedicated training center, thereby contributing to local socio-economic development.
