The recent inauguration of a new high-speed rail line in Southwest China's Guizhou province marks a significant advancement in regional infrastructure, aiming to bolster economic development and tourism by connecting key areas to the national high-speed network.
GUIYANG, November 2025 — A new high-speed rail line in Guizhou province, China the Panzhou–Xingyi Railway is poised to significantly strengthen regional connectivity and boost tourism. Spanning around 98 km and designed for speeds of up to 250 km/h, the line will link Panzhou (on the Shanghai–Kunming high-speed network) to Xingyi, forming a strategic T-junction with the national high-speed rail system. Construction began in 2018, and track-laying has now been completed, with the railway set to begin operations by the end of 2025.
Once operational, the new line will slash travel time between Guiyang, the provincial capital, and Xingyi to about two hours. This faster access is expected to drive a surge in tourism: the improved rail link will make it easier for visitors to reach landmark attractions like Wanfenglin and stay longer, rather than rushing through on limited bus options.
Xingyi’s deputy mayor has framed the opening as a key milestone in integrating the city fully into China’s national high-speed network, injecting fresh momentum into the local tourism industry. Meanwhile, railway officials say the line supports Guizhou’s broader goal of creating a one-to-two-hour high-speed travel circle that connects Guiyang with all eight of the province’s prefectural-level cities.
Beyond tourism, the railway is expected to accelerate socio-economic integration in Qianxinan Prefecture, benefiting regional development, ecological protection, and local income growth.
