Tripura’s railway network has taken a major step toward electrification by commissioning two traction sub-stations at Teliamura in Khowai district and Udaipur in Gomati district. The development is part of the Northeast Frontier Railway’s (NFR) ongoing initiative to introduce electric train services in the state, replacing existing diesel operations.

The Teliamura traction sub-station, which was formally commissioned this week, will enable electrified train movement through Teliamura railway station. Officials said the facility will help improve the efficiency and reliability of train operations across the region. The Udaipur traction sub-station was commissioned earlier on Sunday.

Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) Managing Director Biswajit Bose noted that the project will strengthen rail operations and contribute to power stability in Teliamura and surrounding areas. TSECL Deputy General Manager Kamal Krishna Das, Senior Manager Utpal Kar, and railway official P.C. Meena attended the commissioning ceremony.

The new sub-stations are expected to support smoother train services, reduce operational costs, and cut carbon emissions in line with the central government’s broader mission to expand railway electrification nationwide.

With Teliamura and Udaipur traction sub-stations now operational, Tripura moves closer to launching its first electric train services. Officials believe the shift will enhance transport connectivity, promote sustainable infrastructure, and provide long-term benefits for commuters and residents alike.
