Vietnam Boosts Rail Tourism with New Products Highlighting Heritage

**HANOI, August 2025** — Vietnam is boosting its rail tourism offerings with a blend of luxury train voyages and heritage-focused rail experiences. Among the most prominent new offerings is SJourney, a high-end cross-country train service launched by PYS Travel in collaboration with Vietnam Railways, Gia Lam Train JSC, and Railway Transport JSC. The journey spans 7 days / 6 nights between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City (and vice versa), stopping at destinations such as Ninh Binh, Quang Binh, Hue, Hoi An, Nha Trang, and Phan Thiet. Tickets were priced at US$7,320 in December 2024; from 2025, prices will rise to US$8,610, inclusive of all meals, excursions, and amenities.

In Hanoi, the Department of Tourism has been working with railway operators to design more immersive rail-heritage packages, including seasonal and event-based tours. A striking example is the “Metro Green Journey,” which enables visitors to explore cultural landmarks such as Vạn Phúc Silk Village and the Temple of Literature, as well as the Phú Lương Depot. Another product in planning is “The Hà Nội Train”, an inner-city route intended to evoke Hanoi’s urban history and architecture.

Vietnam’s ambition is clear: to offer an environmentally friendly, culturally rich mode of travel that deepens engagement with the nation’s heritage. Through luxury rail travel and thoughtful heritage tours, the country hopes not only to attract international visitors but also extend stays and enhance the local economies along its rail corridors. Improvements in comfort, curated themes, and upgraded services are seen as vital parts of this strategy.
