Rail freight is playing an increasingly important role in India's automotive supply chains as manufacturers seek more integrated and efficient transportation solutions. Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) has dispatched its first rake of Honda motorcycle containers from its Multimodal Logistics Park (MMLP) in Kathuwas, Rajasthan, marking a new operational milestone in the companies' logistics partnership.

India, October 2026 – ONCOR has completed its first rail dispatch carrying Honda motorcycle containers from MMLP Kathuwas, identified by terminal code CMLK. The movement, reported on 24 October 2026, represents an expansion of the companies' efforts to integrate rail transportation into Honda's domestic distribution and international logistics operations.

The dispatch follows an earlier initiative involving direct container movements from Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India's manufacturing facility in Tapukara to Inland Container Depot (ICD) Kathuwas for export shipments. The initial export operation was expected to generate approximately 300 TEUs monthly, with longer-term potential estimated at 1,500 TEUs. These figures represent projected volumes rather than confirmed throughput. The latest motorcycle rake adds a rail-based movement from the inland terminal, although its destination, container count and shipment value have not been disclosed.

During a strategic review at Kathuwas, CONCOR and Honda representatives also discussed opportunities to expand cooperation across warehousing, first- and last-mile transportation, domestic distribution and export-import logistics. These services could support better coordination between manufacturing facilities, inland terminals and onward transport connections. However, the discussions remain exploratory, with no specific new capacity commitments or comprehensive logistics agreements announced.

Kathuwas already plays an established role in India's freight network through its connection to the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor. The terminal previously handled container movements linked to long-distance freight operations towards Mundra Port, including manufactured goods and automotive components. Meanwhile, Honda's manufacturing expansion plans in Rajasthan add further long-term relevance to the logistics partnership. A third production line at its Tapukara facility is scheduled to begin operations in 2028, adding annual capacity of 670,000 units and bringing the factory's total production capacity to 2.01 million units.

The first motorcycle container rake highlights the growing role of multimodal logistics facilities in connecting India's manufacturing centres with domestic and international markets. For CONCOR and Honda, the next stage will involve establishing repeat rail movements supported by reliable schedules, efficient cargo handling and onward transportation connections. The development also reflects India's broader shift towards greater use of rail freight in automotive supply chains.
