Thailand, September 2026 — Asia Era One, the private operator of Bangkok’s Airport Rail Link, has proposed extending its operating agreement for another four months as authorities work to ensure uninterrupted services during the transition to a new operating arrangement.
Under the proposal, Asia Era One is seeking a monthly payment of 60 million baht to continue operating the service. The conditions come as the existing operating arrangement approaches its scheduled end and the State Railway of Thailand prepares to determine the next management structure.
The extension would provide additional time for the authorities to address operational, financial and personnel requirements associated with the transfer. Maintaining continuity is particularly important for the Airport Rail Link, which provides a direct rail connection between central Bangkok and Suvarnabhumi Airport.
The proposed terms also underline the financial pressures involved in operating the Airport Rail Link. Ensuring adequate funding for rolling stock, maintenance, staffing and day-to-day operations will be central to maintaining service reliability as responsibility shifts toward the state railway system.
The negotiations highlight the complexity of transitioning urban rail assets between concession and public-sector operating models. For Bangkok, securing a stable interim arrangement will be important to prevent disruption while the longer-term operating structure and financial framework for the Airport Rail Link are established.
