Vietnam Railways Introduces Discounts To Boost Passenger Travel

Vietnam, September 2026 — Vietnam’s Railway Transport JSC is introducing a series of fare promotions on selected passenger services, particularly routes serving central Vietnam. The initiative is intended to encourage rail travel, including round trips, while supporting more efficient use of passenger train capacity.

From September 7 to 10, passengers travelling on selected SE services will receive discounts ranging from 15 to 40 percent, depending on the route and accommodation type. On trains SE2, SE4, SE6, SE8, SE10 and SE20, sleeper berths for journeys between Da Nang and Cho Sy or Hue and Hanoi will receive a 30 percent discount.

For selected services between Da Nang and Dieu Tri, sleeper fares will be discounted by up to 40 percent. Promotional sleeper fares start at VND800,000 for Da Nang–Hanoi, while fares from Hue to Vinh and Vinh to Hanoi start at VND376,000 and VND375,000 respectively. Air-conditioned soft-seat fares on selected routes will receive 15 percent discounts.

The operator is also offering incentives for return journeys between September 7 and November 19 and again from November 25 to December 30. Individual passengers booking their return journey one to 19 days before departure can receive a 20 percent discount, increasing to 30 percent for bookings made at least 20 days in advance. Group bookings are subject to similar advance-purchase incentives.

The promotional programme illustrates how fare management can be used alongside service planning to stimulate demand and improve passenger utilisation. For Vietnam’s rail sector, targeted discounts and advance-booking incentives provide an additional mechanism to strengthen demand on intercity services while encouraging passengers to choose rail for longer-distance journeys.
