Hitachi Rail and Google Cloud Forge AI Partnership to Accelerate Rail Digitalization

LONDON, December 2025 — Hitachi Rail has announced a significant collaboration with Google Cloud, aiming to accelerate digital transformation within the rail sector. This partnership is set to integrate advanced AI and cybersecurity technologies to enhance operational efficiency and drive innovation in rail transport, supporting the industry's move towards autonomous and sustainable mobility.

The alliance, building on a broader partnership between Hitachi and Google Cloud first made public in October 2025, will see Hitachi Rail utilize Google Cloud's AI platforms, including Vertex AI, with a particular focus on generative AI and robust cybersecurity solutions. This technical partnership also involves leveraging GlobalLogic's digital engineering and AI capabilities, integrating them with Google Cloud's technological offerings.

This collaboration is designed to support innovation, boost productivity, and pave the way for more autonomous and sustainable mobility solutions in the rail industry. By harnessing Google Cloud's technological offerings alongside Hitachi Rail's deep domain expertise, the partnership aims to unlock new levels of efficiency for operational teams and lay the critical foundation for future autonomous rail networks. The integration extends to Hitachi Group's Lumada 3.0 solutions.

Giuseppe Marino, Hitachi Rail group CEO, stated that the collaboration will enable the company to harness Google Cloud's leadership in digital and AI technologies to meet ambitious digital transformation goals, developing optimized and energy-efficient solutions for customers. He added that this partnership combines Hitachi Rail's operational technology expertise with Google's generative AI and agentic technology, promising new levels of efficiency and a foundation for autonomous rail networks. The article also notes Hitachi Rail's prior adoption of Nvidia's AI and machine learning for its HMAX platform and its pioneering use of Nvidia's IGX Thor platform.

This strategic move by Hitachi Rail underscores the growing trend of leveraging cutting-edge AI and cloud technologies to modernize infrastructure and services, positioning the company at the forefront of developing smarter, more sustainable, and autonomous rail systems for the future.
