Hyundai Rotem Targets Record Revenue, Eyes Global Leadership in Rail Sector
SYDNEY, December 2025 — Hyundai Rotem is setting an ambitious target to surpass 2 trillion won in railway business revenue for the first time in 2026, signaling a significant push for global market leadership. This projection follows a strong performance, with revenues expected to reach 1.9 trillion won this year, up from 1.496 trillion won last year.
The company is not only focused on financial growth but also on expanding its international footprint. Hyundai Rotem aims to compete directly with established European and Japanese firms for the lucrative New York subway project, leveraging its advanced technological capabilities. This strategic move underscores their confidence in achieving a leading position in the global rail industry.
Hyundai Rotem is actively pursuing new markets, including Saudi Arabia, Thailand, and Vietnam, while building on existing successes in Australia, Morocco, and Uzbekistan. The company is exploring opportunities for high-speed rail exports to Uzbekistan and a long-term joint venture for electric train maintenance in Morocco.
With a dedicated R&D team of 582 researchers, Hyundai Rotem is focused on enhancing its technological prowess and aims to increase its localization rate from 85% to 95%. They emphasize their competitive advantages in technology, delivery, and quality, particularly in contrast to competitors like China, positioning themselves as a reliable and innovative player.
This strategic expansion and focus on technological advancement place Hyundai Rotem at the forefront of the global rail sector, poised to challenge established players and redefine industry standards in the coming years.
