Prasarana names new chairman, acting CEO in leadership reshuffle
Prasarana Malaysia Bhd has announced key leadership changes to strengthen its commitment to efficient and reliable public transportation. Tan Sri Mohd Nasir Ahmad has been appointed as Group Chairman effective August 1, while Amir Hamdan will assume the role of Acting President and Group CEO starting July 15.
Tan Sri Mohd Nasir brings a wealth of experience from the corporate sector, having chaired CIMB Group Holdings Bhd since 2018 and previously led Perbadanan Usahawan Nasional Bhd (PUNB). He replaces Tan Sri Jamaludin Ibrahim, whose term concluded on April 30.
Amir Hamdan, currently Prasarana’s Group Chief Operating Officer (Operations), succeeds Mohd Azharuddin Mat Sah, who is set to step down on July 14. Amir joined Prasarana in 2019 as Deputy CFO and has held critical leadership positions, including CEO of Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd. He is widely recognized for improving operational efficiency and service reliability across Prasarana’s rail networks.
Amir holds a degree in Commerce from Lincoln University, New Zealand, and a Master’s in Islamic Financial Practice from INCEIF University. He is a certified member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
According to Prasarana, the combined leadership expertise of Nasir and Amir will play a pivotal role in advancing Malaysia’s public transport usage target of 40% modal share by 2030.
As Malaysia’s leading public transport operator, Prasarana manages urban rail, bus, and on-demand services across the Klang Valley, Penang, and Kuantan. The company recorded a historic daily ridership of 1.5 million passengers on December 31, 2024, alongside significant performance gains, including a drop in rail service disruptions from 255 incidents in 2022 to just 71 in 2023 and the launch of its Rapid On-Demand van service.
