Strong governance and institutional leadership are increasingly important as Malaysia advances major urban and cross-border rail investments. MRT Corp has appointed Tan Sri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz as chairman, effective August 13, as the company enters a key phase involving major rail projects and transit-oriented development.

August 2026 – Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Malaysia Rapid Transit Corp Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) has appointed Tan Sri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz as its new chairman, effective August 13, 2026. The appointment comes as the rail infrastructure developer advances its national rail and urban development mandate.

MRT Corp’s current programme includes the Johor Bahru–Singapore RTS Link and the Penang LRT Mutiara Line, alongside efforts to expand its capabilities in transit-oriented development, integrated property development and commercial revenue generation. The company said the new leadership comes at an important stage in delivering these major infrastructure initiatives.

Wan Ahmad brings more than three decades of public-sector experience and currently serves as Director-General of Public Service, a position he has held since January 2024. His previous roles include Director-General of the Implementation Coordination Unit in the Prime Minister’s Department, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Home Affairs and Comptroller of the Royal Household at Istana Negara.

He also serves as chairman of the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) Malaysia and the Razak School of Government, while holding board positions at organisations including Malaysia Rail Link, the Employees Provident Fund and the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia. His existing involvement across public institutions and rail-related organisations provides experience relevant to large-scale infrastructure governance.

The appointment comes as MRT Corp moves towards delivery of projects that will influence Malaysia’s urban mobility and regional connectivity. For the rail sector, the leadership change highlights the importance of governance, policy coordination and institutional capacity in managing complex rail programmes that involve infrastructure delivery, cross-border integration and wider urban development objectives.
