PETALING JAYA, 30 June 2026 — Rapid KL's newly launched Shah Alam Line has recorded more than 60,000 passenger journeys on its first day of operations, marking a strong public reception for one of the Klang Valley's newest urban rail corridors.
The milestone, achieved on Monday, 29 June, comes just one day after the line was officially inaugurated, highlighting encouraging demand for the new service that aims to improve connectivity across Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam and Klang.
According to Rapid KL, a total of 60,000 passenger journeys were made across the Shah Alam Line ecosystem on its first day. This figure includes rail services as well as integrated first-last mile connections provided through feeder buses and Rapid KL On-Demand (ROD).
Of the total journeys recorded:
58,865 journeys were made on the Shah Alam Line train service.
3,319 first-last mile journeys continued via integrated services.
1,883 journeys utilised feeder buses.
1,436 journeys were completed using Rapid KL On-Demand.

The figures reflect the importance of providing seamless multimodal connections that extend beyond rail stations, enabling passengers to complete their journeys more efficiently.
Positive Indicator for Public Transport Adoption
Rapid KL said the encouraging first-day ridership demonstrates growing public confidence in the new line and reinforces the need for an expanded rail network serving major residential, commercial, educational and employment centres across the western Klang Valley.
President and Group Chief Executive Officer of Prasarana Malaysia Berhad, Amir Hamdan, described the strong response as an encouraging sign for public transport adoption.
"More than 60,000 journeys on the first day clearly demonstrate that the public needs better public transport options in the western Klang Valley. This is an exciting beginning, and we will continue to monitor passenger travel patterns, operational performance and customer feedback to further enhance the overall travel experience," he said.
Supporting Passengers During the Launch Period
To ensure a smooth start to operations, Rapid KL deployed additional operational personnel, station staff and Rapid Troopers across all Shah Alam Line stations to assist passengers with wayfinding, station facilities and transfers to feeder buses and Rapid KL On-Demand services.
The operator also reminded commuters that free rides on the Shah Alam Line and its feeder bus services will continue until 31 July 2026, allowing more people to experience the new railway line and its integrated transport network.
The promotional initiative is expected to encourage greater public adoption while familiarising commuters with the new route and interchange facilities.
Strengthening Urban Mobility in the Klang Valley
The opening of the Shah Alam Line represents another significant milestone in the expansion of Kuala Lumpur's rail network. By connecting key population centres with integrated first-last mile services, the line is expected to improve accessibility, reduce travel times and support a more sustainable urban transport system.
As ridership continues to grow in the coming weeks, the first-day performance provides an early indication of the important role the Shah Alam Line will play in strengthening mobility across one of Malaysia's busiest metropolitan regions.
