Vietnam, October 2026 – Vietnam and Poland are pursuing deeper investment and industrial cooperation following the upgrade of their bilateral relationship to a Strategic Partnership. The priorities were outlined by Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk at the Vietnam-Poland Business Roundtable held in Hanoi on 26 October 2026. Both leaders emphasised the importance of moving beyond traditional trade towards long-term investment and technology partnerships.
Railways were identified as one of the sectors with potential for expanded cooperation. Vietnam's Prime Minister encouraged Polish companies to explore opportunities in railway infrastructure alongside renewable energy, shipbuilding and digital transformation. He also highlighted the importance of improving transport connectivity, including studying a potential rail link that could complement existing maritime freight connections between Asia and Europe.
Poland brings established industrial and engineering capabilities, while Vietnam offers manufacturing capacity, a strategic seaport network and access to regional markets. The two governments are encouraging partnerships that involve technology transfer, workforce training and greater participation by Vietnamese businesses in international production and supply chains. These priorities could provide a foundation for cooperation in railway technology, infrastructure development and related industrial services.
Beyond railways, both countries identified pharmaceuticals and healthcare, defence technologies, and the space industry as areas for collaboration. Potential initiatives include pharmaceutical research and manufacturing, satellite data analysis, Earth observation and applications of space technology in agriculture, environmental protection and infrastructure management. The discussions also highlighted opportunities to combine Polish technical expertise with Vietnamese industrial capabilities.
The economic partnership is supported by growing trade between the two countries. Bilateral trade reached nearly US$4 billion in 2025, increasing by 14.8% year-on-year, while trade during the first nine months of 2026 approached US$3.5 billion. Both governments are targeting US$6 billion in bilateral trade by 2030, with the Strategic Partnership expected to provide a framework for expanding investment, strengthening supply chains and developing cooperation across Southeast Asia and Central Europe.
