AI-Powered Intrusion Detection System to Enhance Safety on Motichur-Raiwala Railway

An AI-powered intrusion detection system has been approved for installation on the 15km Motichur-Raiwala railway stretch to protect wildlife from train collisions. The system will utilize fiber optics and Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) to detect animal movements, sending alerts to station masters, loco pilots, and forest staff. Alarm systems with audio-video signals will also be activated for rapid response.

With five critical points identified as high-risk animal crossing zones, the implementation team has received the go-ahead from the chief wildlife warden, and testing is scheduled to commence this week. The technology has been tested in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Odisha, and it has the ability to detect activities such as train movement, digging, and cable damage, enhancing both animal safety and railway security.
