Chennai Metro Rail Integrates with Uber, Offers 50% Discount for Seamless Commute

Chennai Metro Rail has partnered with Uber to facilitate seamless multimodal integration for commuters by offering a 50% discount on Uber bookings.

Chennai Metro Rail users can now book tickets via the Uber mobile app and avail a 50% discount on metro tickets through the month of August. Additionally, commuters who book an Uber Auto or Uber Moto ride to or from Metro Rail stations will receive a 50% discount, up to ₹20.

The initiative aims to provide commuters with more convenient ticketing options and improve first-and-last-mile connectivity. M.A. Siddique, Managing Director of Chennai Metro Rail Limited, emphasised that this move would benefit thousands of passengers by offering an additional platform for ticket purchases, aligning with the company's expansion plans to transform Chennai's commuting landscape.

Manikandan Thangarathnam, Senior Director at Uber, highlighted the importance of this integration in creating a seamless travel experience. By enabling passengers to plan and pay for their entire journey, including the initial and final legs, in a single click, this partnership sets the stage for enhanced multimodal travel solutions. Uber's use of machine learning and AI algorithms will address real-time variables, such as traffic and vehicle availability, to optimise time and pricing.

This collaboration marks a significant step toward modernising Chennai's public transportation system, offering a streamlined and integrated solution that enhances convenience and accessibility for daily commuters.
