China's Rail Network Surpasses 3.95 Billion Passenger Trips, Setting New Record

BEIJING, November 2025 – China's railway system has achieved a significant milestone, handling an unprecedented volume of passenger traffic in the first ten months of the year. This record-breaking performance underscores the growing importance of rail infrastructure in facilitating national mobility and its expanding role within the broader Asian transportation landscape.

From January to October, China's railways facilitated 3.95 billion passenger trips, marking a substantial 6.4 percent increase year-on-year. This figure represents the highest number of passenger journeys ever recorded for this period. The network experienced its busiest single day on October 1st, when 23.13 million trips were made nationwide.

This surge in passenger demand highlights the effectiveness of expanded transport capacity and optimized scheduling in meeting public needs. The continued growth suggests a robust recovery and expansion of travel, reinforcing rail's position as a primary mode of transport and a key driver for economic activity and connectivity within China and potentially across the region.

The railway operator has also focused on diversifying travel products and enhancing service quality. This includes a notable 28.1 percent increase in tourism-oriented trains, offering specialized routes for various demographics and interests, from "red tourism" to "silver-age" trains. Passenger services have been further upgraded with improved ticketing platforms, expanded group booking options, and pilot programs for services like pet transport and luggage delivery.

Looking ahead, China Railway plans to continue adjusting operations based on market demand, aiming to provide even safer, more convenient, and comfortable travel experiences. This sustained focus on growth and passenger satisfaction positions China's rail network as a leading example of modern, high-capacity public transportation infrastructure in Asia.
