CRRC Introduces Smart, Sustainable Train to Modernize Regional Rail

CRRC has introduced a new Standard Intelligent Regional Train in Qingdao, Shandong, designed to set a benchmark for future regional rail systems. Built with a focus on intelligence, digitalisation, modularisation, sustainability, and integrated train–ground operation, the train represents a significant step forward in modernising China’s regional rail network.

The train is equipped with advanced self-sensing, self-learning, and self-decision-making control technologies, which have dramatically reduced operational failure rates. It also features hot-standby switching technology, enabling it to automatically switch to a backup system in the event of a failure, ensuring continuous and reliable service.

Developed under a China-led standards framework, 88 percent of the train’s technical standards were independently created. It incorporates more than ten new technologies that enhance intelligence, safety, comfort, energy efficiency, and operational economy. The modular design of the train allows for easy upgrades and maintenance, while digital systems support optimized performance and monitoring.

Industry experts see this launch as a milestone for the regional rail sector, demonstrating China’s commitment to intelligent and standardised train solutions. By integrating cutting-edge technologies and safety features, the train sets a model for future regional rail development, offering improved reliability and efficiency while supporting sustainable transportation initiatives.
