First RTS Link Train Delivered for Johor–Singapore Route, Full Operations Targeted by December 2026
The first train for the Johor Baru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link has arrived in Singapore and will undergo testing at the Singapore Rail Test Centre (SRTC) in Tuas. The four-car train, one of eight for the route, is 76.5 meters long and is expected to begin service in December 2026.
Testing at SRTC will ensure the train's systems integrate smoothly and should be completed by late 2025. Following this, service simulation trials will occur between Woodlands North in Singapore and Bukit Chagar in Johor until the third quarter of 2026. Four more trains are being assembled in Perak, with the remaining three to follow. All trains will eventually be sent to Johor Baru’s Wadi Hana depot for further trials.
The 4 km journey between Woodlands North and Bukit Chagar will take approximately 5 minutes, with trains departing every 3.6 minutes during peak hours. The line will operate from 6 am to 12 am daily, with a peak capacity of 10,000 passengers per hour in each direction. Each train, built by CRRC Zuzhou Locomotive, can hold 607 passengers optimally and a maximum of 1,087 passengers, with each car having 32 seats, including foldable ones for wheelchairs, prams, or luggage. Overall installation of the RTS Link systems is 56% complete, including track laying and power system installation, with rack installation expected to finish by the end of July.
