Green Light for ₹5,801 Crore Lucknow Metro Expansion.

**LUCKNOW, August 2025** — The Indian government has approved Phase 1B of the Lucknow Metro Rail Project, marking another step forward in expanding urban transit infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh. The project is designed to improve connectivity across the capital city and ease congestion in its most densely populated areas.

With an estimated investment of ₹5,801 crore, Phase 1B will extend the metro network by 11.165 kilometers and add 12 new stations. Of these, seven stations will be built underground while five will be elevated, extending metro access into Old Lucknow’s historic neighborhoods.

Once completed, the metro network in Lucknow will span 34 kilometers, providing residents with more efficient public transportation and reducing dependence on road travel. The expansion is expected to alleviate traffic congestion, bring environmental benefits, and drive economic growth in the region.

The new section will connect important commercial and cultural hubs such as Aminabad and Chowk, key healthcare institutions like King George’s Medical University, and popular tourist landmarks including Bara Imambara. By improving accessibility to these vital zones, the project is set to enhance the quality of life for residents and visitors alike.
