Hafeet Railway Project Anchors Oman's Buraimi Growth Vision
BURAIMI, November 2025 — The Buraimi governorate in Oman is advancing a series of strategic projects aimed at fostering sustainable development and enhancing its role as a regional hub for investment and industry. Central to this vision is the development of critical infrastructure, including a significant cross-border rail link designed to bolster regional connectivity.
The Hafeet Railway Project is a cornerstone initiative, establishing a vital rail connection between Oman and the United Arab Emirates. This project, in conjunction with the Al Rawdah Economic Zone, is set to significantly improve transport connectivity and facilitate trade. These developments are supported by an 11km dual carriageway between Buraimi and Mahdah, alongside various agricultural and water management projects aimed at bolstering food security and resource sustainability.
This integrated approach, spearheaded by the rail link, is poised to transform Buraimi into a pivotal hub for transport, trade, and manufacturing. The enhanced connectivity is expected to stimulate economic activity, attract investment, and strengthen regional cooperation between Oman and the UAE, contributing to sustainable economic growth across the region.
Governor of Buraimi, Dr. Hamad bin Ahmed al Busaidi, has emphasized the strategic importance of these projects, noting their role in promoting tourism and preserving cultural identity. The governorate has also secured 23 investment contracts valued at over RO13 million, indicating strong investor confidence in its development trajectory.
These comprehensive development efforts underscore Oman's commitment to leveraging infrastructure, particularly rail, to drive economic diversification and solidify its position within the broader Middle Eastern economic landscape, integrating it more deeply into regional and international trade networks.
