Hengqin High-Speed Rail Station to Integrate with Macau LRT, Boasting RMB6 Billion Investment
MACAU, November — Plans are advancing for a significant high-speed rail infrastructure project in the Hengqin Guangdong-Macau Deep Cooperation Zone, aimed at enhancing connectivity within the Greater Bay Area. This initiative underscores the region's commitment to developing integrated transportation networks that bridge key economic hubs.
The project involves the construction of a new high-speed rail station in Hengqin, designed as the terminus for the Guangzhou-Zhuhai-Macau high-speed railway. It will feature a three-platform, six-track underground layout and is slated for a direct integration with the Macau Light Rapid Transit (LRT) Hengqin Port. The estimated investment for this station-city integration project is RMB6 billion.
This development is poised to significantly improve travel efficiency and accessibility between Macau and the mainland high-speed rail network, operating at speeds of up to 350 km/h. It is expected to bolster economic ties and facilitate greater mobility for commuters and businesses in the region.
The project is currently in the feasibility study phase, with a core station area of 29 hectares and a broader integration study area spanning 150 hectares. Previous related developments include the completion of a light-rail interchange for the Macau-Zhuhai connection and the expansion of Macau's LRT with a Hengqin line.
As part of a broader trend of infrastructure development in Asia, this high-speed rail project highlights the ongoing efforts to create seamless intermodal transport systems that are crucial for regional economic growth and integration.
