Hong Kong Light Rail Derailment: Minibus Collision Injures 12 in Tuen Mun
HONG KONG, November 2025 — The early morning hours of Sunday saw a significant disruption to Hong Kong’s public-transport network when a collision involving a light-rail train and a minibus occurred in Tuen Mun. This incident highlights the ongoing challenges in maintaining safety at road-rail interfaces within densely populated urban environments.
The accident took place around 12:43 AM on Tsing Lun Road. A 64-year-old minibus driver was arrested after his vehicle collided with a Lok Ma Chau-bound light-rail train, causing the train to partially derail. Twelve individuals sustained injuries as a result of the crash.
The collision led to immediate service disruptions on the affected light-rail lines, impacting commuter travel. It underscores the critical importance of driver vigilance and adherence to traffic signals at intersections where road vehicles and rail systems converge, raising questions about the safety protocols at such points.
Reports suggest the minibus driver may have mistakenly entered the intersection, allegedly seeing the wrong traffic light. The driver sustained leg injuries and was freed from the damaged minibus by firefighters.
This event serves as a stark reminder of the potential consequences of traffic violations involving public transit, emphasizing the need for continuous safety measures and public-awareness campaigns to prevent similar incidents and ensure the reliable operation of vital urban-rail infrastructure
