Indian Railways to Equip 74,000 Coaches and 15,000 Locomotives with CCTV Cameras

Indian Railways has decided to install CCTV cameras in 74,000 coaches and 15,000 locomotives to improve passenger safety and reduce crime. This decision was made during a meeting between Union Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw and Minister of State Ravneet Bittu. The Ministry of Railways has been running pilot CCTV camera projects in coaches and has now decided to install cameras in common areas of all coaches and locomotives.

According to the plan, each railway coach will have four dome-type CCTV cameras, with two cameras at each entrance. Each locomotive will be fitted with six CCTV cameras, including one at the front, rear, and both sides. Each cab will also have one dome CCTV camera and two desk-mounted microphones. Railway officials stated that successful trials have been conducted on the Northern Railway.
