KTMB Set to Operate New Inland Port Near Thai Border

Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) has entered into a strategic agreement to operate and maintain the forthcoming Perlis Inland Port (PIP) in Padang Besar, near the Malaysia-Thailand border.

Phase 1 of PIP, slated for completion by Q3 2025, will enhance container handling capacity to 300,000 TEUs annually—double that of the existing Padang Besar Container Terminal.

Developed through a public-private partnership, the government has invested over RM300 million in supporting infrastructure, including a 5 km bonded road and a railway spur line.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke highlighted that PIP will serve as a catalyst for industrial and logistics activities in the northern corridor, positioning Malaysia as a key logistics hub in the region.
