Malaysia's Rail Sector Advances with CRRC ETS3 Electric Train Launch

SEPTEMBER 6, 2025, KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysia’s intercity rail travel is set for a major upgrade with the introduction of the new CRRC ETS3 electric trains, aimed at improving connectivity and reducing journey times between Kuala Lumpur and Johor.

The ETS3 trains, engineered for high performance, can reach speeds of up to 140 km/h. Designed with enhanced maneuverability, they can navigate track curves with a minimum radius of 100 meters, ensuring smoother rides even on complex rail alignments.

Rail authorities expect the new service to provide a faster and more reliable alternative to road travel, which is often affected by traffic congestion. By improving travel efficiency and passenger comfort, the ETS3 trains are projected to encourage greater adoption of rail as a primary mode of intercity transport.

The introduction of these advanced electric trains marks a significant step in Malaysia’s commitment to modernizing its railway system. With their speed, agility, and potential for deployment across multiple lines, the ETS3 trains are positioned to strengthen rail connectivity nationwide and support broader infrastructure development initiatives across the region.
