MRT Putrajaya Line Faces Early Closure for Signalling System Restoration Amidst Disruption
KUALA LUMPUR, October 2025 —The MRT Putrajaya Line experienced a significant disruption on October 25, 2025, forcing an early suspension of services and highlighting the critical importance of infrastructure security in urban transit networks.
Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd announced that train operations on the line ceased around 10 p.m. to allow technical teams and equipment specialists to carry out comprehensive repairs on the signalling system. The disruption was traced to theft of communication cables and related signalling components, an incident currently under police investigation.
As an interim measure, free shuttle feeder bus services were deployed between Kwasa Damansara and Putrajaya Sentral stations, operating approximately every 15 to 20 minutes, while monitoring and repair work continued.
The operator confirmed that overnight restoration efforts enabled the line to resume automatic train operations by October 27, 2025, although full stabilisation is still in progress. A detailed recovery timeline has yet to be announced.
This incident underscores the vulnerability of modern transit systems to sabotage and theft, and the necessity for continuous investment in maintenance, system resilience, and security. With public transport reliability central to urban mobility, effective infrastructure protection remains a top priority for sustaining confidence in Malaysia’s rail network.
