MRT Sabotage? Police Close In on Cable Theft Syndicate

KUALA LUMPUR, October 2025 — Police are intensifying efforts to locate suspects believed to be involved in the intrusion and theft of communication cables and signalling systems at the MRT Putrajaya Line portal near Taman Desa on Saturday.

Brickfields District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Hoo Chang Hook said investigations are ongoing, with early findings suggesting that the incident was carried out by a group.

“Anyone with information related to the case is urged to come forward and assist the police in the investigation,” he said when contacted today.

The incident was reported by MRT Putrajaya Line auxiliary police from the Sungai Besi area at 12.41 pm. Preliminary inspections revealed that the perimeter fence of the portal had been cut and left open. Further examination found piles of communication cables belonging to the MRT near Pier 0373.

Earlier, Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd, the operator of the Rapid KL rail network, said the theft of communication cables and signalling equipment was suspected to be the cause of the disruption affecting train operations on the Putrajaya Line.

Police are continuing their investigation to identify all those involved and to determine the total amount of stolen cables and equipment, as well as the overall extent of the damage.
