MTR Expects Patronage Boost from Sports and Entertainment Events

**HONG KONG, August 2025** — Hong Kong’s MTR Corporation is anticipating a steady rise in rail patronage as the city ramps up its hosting of international sports and entertainment events, according to CEO Jacob Kam. The projection was shared following the company’s latest earnings report.

Kam noted that Hong Kong’s growing calendar of large-scale events is expected to attract bigger crowds, which in turn will drive greater demand for public transport. This could translate into higher revenues for MTR and increased economic activity across the city.

Beyond rail operations, shifting retail and travel behaviors are also reshaping the way people engage with MTR’s shopping malls and station-linked retail spaces. Kam emphasized that MTR is closely monitoring these trends to refine its business strategies, ensuring that both transport services and retail operations remain aligned with consumer expectations.

The company’s positive outlook underscores its confidence in Hong Kong’s ability to leverage events as catalysts for growth. With rail networks playing a central role in mobility, MTR’s ability to accommodate rising passenger numbers will be key. Potential upgrades and expansions may further enhance infrastructure, ensuring Hong Kong remains competitive as a regional hub for tourism, shopping, and entertainment.
