Otis India Equips Nation's First High-Speed Rail Corridor

MUMBAI, October 2025 — Otis India is a key contributor to the development of India’s first high-speed rail corridor, connecting Mumbai and Ahmedabad. This project represents a significant advancement in the nation’s transportation infrastructure, aiming to revolutionise intercity travel.

Otis India is supplying 55 units of elevators and escalators across six stations and one depot. These include Gen2 Stream elevator systems featuring machine-room-less, gearless technology and Otis ReGen regenerative drive systems for enhanced energy efficiency. The Otis 520 NPE heavy-duty escalator systems are also being installed, designed for bi-directional high-traffic flow to ensure safety and smooth passenger movement.

This deployment is integral to creating India’s most advanced passenger infrastructure. The high-speed rail line, utilising Japanese Shinkansen bullet-train technology, will operate at speeds up to 320 km/h, reducing the 508 km journey to just over two hours and dramatically enhancing connectivity between major economic centres.

Otis India’s President, Sebi Joseph, emphasised the company’s commitment to passenger safety and seamless journeys, drawing on their extensive experience in major transport infrastructure projects. The initiative aligns with the broader vision of establishing a national high-speed rail network.

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad corridor is the first phase of a planned national network, poised to connect India’s major economic regions. Otis’s involvement highlights the critical role of advanced vertical-mobility solutions in modernising transportation systems and supporting economic development.
