Panzhou-Xingyi High-Speed Rail Inaugurated, Elevating Guizhou's Rail Network and Economic Landscape
GUIZHOU, November 2025 — The Panzhou-Xingyi High-Speed Rail line has been inaugurated in Guizhou Province, marking a significant advancement in China's southwestern rail infrastructure. This new route connects the city of Xingyi directly to the provincial capital, Guiyang, in under two hours, enhancing regional connectivity and opening up previously underdeveloped areas to new economic opportunities and tourism. This development is a crucial step in Guizhou's broader strategy to integrate its prefectural capitals through a modern high-speed rail system.
The 99-kilometer line represents a substantial investment of 13.54 billion yuan (approximately $1.9 billion) and was constructed despite significant geological challenges, with approximately 91% of the route comprising bridges and tunnels. The railway significantly reduces travel time, providing swift and convenient access to Xingyi's renowned natural attractions, including the UNESCO Global Geopark of Xiangxi and its karst formations, such as Wanfenglin and Malinghe Canyon.
The Panzhou-Xingyi railway is poised to stimulate economic growth and boost the tourism sector. Local hospitality businesses, including guesthouses and homestays, are already reporting increased demand, with plans for expansion to accommodate the anticipated influx of visitors. Officials anticipate the rail link will act as a catalyst for rural revitalization, enhancing the region's appeal to both domestic and international tourists and fostering cultural exchange.
With this new line, Guizhou has achieved a milestone by becoming the first provincial-level region in southwest China to connect all its prefectural capitals via high-speed rail. The province's expanding rail network, now spanning 4,354 kilometers including 1,906 kilometers of high-speed routes, solidifies its position as a vital hub within China's national high-speed rail system and opens new avenues for regional development and global trade.
